Although only fifty years old, the monument to the Heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac has become a symbol of the city. Located on the right bank of the Tara, near the stone bridge, the monument, the work of the sculptor Drago Đurović and the architect Mirko Đukić, was built in 1966, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the famous Mojkovac battle. Although it was not crucial for the final outcome, this battle is one of the most significant in the First World War and the entire history of Montenegro. On Christmas Day in 1916, the Montenegrin army, under the leadership of sergeant Janko Vukotic, with enormous sacrifices, won a stronger and more supremely superior Austro-Hungarian army. Mojkovac's heroes became a symbol of starvation and heroism, and another confirmation of traditional Montenegrin courage and heroism.

Interesting

  • The legend about the creation of Zabojsko lake is interesting. They say when the wicked ones ruled over this nature there was a bloody battle for supremacy, in the field where the lake is now settled. The day was cloudy and St Elijah drove his chariots in the sky above Sinjajevina. When he saw the wicked ones, he got furious and and he killed them all with one single thunder. Then he turned the field into a clear water lake “where there are all sorts of fish, to eat it fresh whenever you like." Leaving by his chariot of fire towards heaven, St. Elijah said, "That was FOR-BATTLE (za- boj)", from which the name of the lake is derived.

  • The greatest value of this kind of development of Bjelasica is that it is a reasonable and environmentally sustainable solution. This area, which it is made of clastic rocks, is rich with springs (even on 1.800 mnv) which opens the possibility of making artificial snow.

  • The name of today's town Mojkovac is derived from the king's words, “moj kovani novac” (my coins). The town is scattered along the coast of “The Tear of Europe” in its expansion near the ruins of famous medieval trading and mining town Brskovo, where the first coin - brskovski groat was minted in the 13th century.
